Vik Dunis

Vik currently has 2,361 photos of 578 Australian bird species on Bushpea.

Vik was born in 1954 in the English village of North Hykeham, Lincolnshire. He and his parents and brother moved as Ten Pound Poms to Australia in 1970 where they took up residence in Brisbane, Queensland.

Vik lived in Queensland for the next thirty years, mostly in Brisbane but also spent a few years at the small outback towns of Emerald and Rolleston. In 2001, to escape the monotonously perfect Queensland weather, he moved to Melbourne.

Vik has the most modest equipment of the Bushpea photographers with his current camera being a Canon SX1 point-and-shoot.*

He explains that this is because he wants to show just what you can achieve with a modest camera in the field of bird photography.

Larry, his brother, suggests that the reason is that Vik is a peach steak, Larry always having been over-fond of anagrams.

In any case, continues Larry, it's probably just as well Vik carries modest equipment as he is absent-minded and a little accident prone, and has dropped and tossed a number of cameras onto rocks, concrete and into mud or is likely just to leave it somewhere.

Vik thought that Larry's accident-prone comment was a little akin to the pot calling the kettle something-or-other, and suggested that like most of the crockery in Vik's kitchen, his brother was a little cracked.

Vik enjoys travelling anywhere in Australia, a pastime that has been made even more enjoyable by incorporating the challenge of bird photography.

*This has not been true for some time. Larry passed his Canon 7D on to Vik and Vik has subsequently developed an immoderate taste for less-modest equipment.
