Bushpea Reptiles

(the scaly things you find when looking for birds)

The Bushpea Gallery currently holds 353 photos of 89 Australian reptile species.

None of us here at Bushpea consider ourselves experts on reptiles, but we all find them fascinating.

Whilst we usually manage to recognise that we are looking at a reptile, exactly which one is often more of a challenge. If you believe that any of the reptiles on these pages have been mis-identified please excuse our ignorance and drop us a line so that we can fix it up.

When they're not fleeing, they make great photographic subjects. They'll often stand perfectly still and they are slower and don't travel as far when disturbed as birds, and if you stay still long enough, they don't even know that you're there.

I'm a bit more wary of snakes for subjects. They aren't aware how beautiful and fascinating I find them, and also that I wish them no harm. I'm not confident that they feel the same way about me so I thank goodness for long telephoto lenses.

Herpetologist J. Lindley McKay has provided valuable assistance to us by confirming and occasionally correcting the identification of species on these pages, for which we are very grateful.
