Larry Dunis

Larry currently has 1,271 photos of 454 Australian bird species on Bushpea.

Larry was born in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, England in 1956. The son of a gasworks employee, he carried on the tradition in a more personal fashion according to his brother, Vik, who shared a bedroom and other enclosed spaces with him for many years.

In 1970, having somehow learnt of the migration plans, Larry moved with his parents and brother to Brisbane, Australia where he has lived ever since.

Over the years, whilst photographing just about anything that moved or stood still, Larry accumulated a small collection of bird photographs, and eventually a competition developed between him and Vik as to who could photograph the most birds.

The Bushpea birds web pages were born out of this competition.

Whilst the brothers started out with similar Olympus point-and-shoot cameras, Larry, influenced by friend Geoff's Canon 400D and the ease with which he seemed to be able to photograph birds, upgraded to the even flashier Canon 40D with 100-400 zoom lens.

Now he regularly badgers Vik to upgrade, to which Vik is often heard to respond affectionately to him with the words ""bugger nagging and off me stop"" but not usually in that order.

In December, 2008, Larry was diagnosed with an illness which caused him to reconsider his priorities and has since devoted as much time as he can to family and friends and to his favourite pastime of bird photography.

UPDATE: Larry passed away in September, 2010. He is dearly missed by all who knew him. Please visit the Tribute to Larry pages by clicking on the photo at left.
